Message from Jenny

September 4th, 2014

Dear P.S. 150 Families,

Welcome back!  We are so excited to see all of our fantastic children.  Many of us were here throughout the summer planning, decorating, cleaning and envisioning an amazing start to what will be a wonderful 2014-2015 school year.

We will continue to work on some previous school-wide initiatives: aligning our curricula with the Common Core Learning Standards and working on differentiation by creating small group instruction in both ELA and math.  We will have a staff developer from Teachers College coming to the school a total of 15 times to work with each teacher individually on reading and writing instruction, named Alicia Luick.  Our staff developer, Shara Hammet, from Math in Focus, will be back a few times as well, to model instruction and work with our teachers.  In addition, we will be working on social/emotional growth with our students, and will spend Monday afternoons learning more about and refining our Responsive Classroom approach to behavior.

WE ARE A NUT-FREE SCHOOL

PS 150 is a nut-free school. These restrictions refer to both ground and tree nuts.  We have young students with serious nut allergies, for whom this is a matter of life and death.

Children will be offered cheese sandwiches as an alternative to the hot lunch instead of peanut butter.

If you are sending your child to school with a lunch packed at home, please do not include any food items with nuts.  This includes salted peanuts, peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter granola bars, foods cooked in peanut oil and all tree nut and tree nut-derived products.

In addition, if your child eats peanuts or peanut-based products as part of his/her breakfast, please make sure his/her hands are washed thoroughly before coming to school and there are no crumbs on his/her clothing.

It isn't easy being green
Please help us by discarding all trash in the appropriate receptacles.  We have blue bins for metal, glass and plastic, grey bins for paper and regular cans for all non recyclable garbage.  Thank you.
