Message from Jenny

Dear P.S. 150 Families,

I am very honored to announce that at 1:30 pm today, U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, designated P.S. 150 as one of 337 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2014.

The school was originally nominated by our school network last November.  In order to follow through with the nomination, there was a lengthy application process, and it was completed and submitted for consideration last December.  It has been a long road, with much nail biting and anticipation, but the effort paid off!  Thank you to the entire community for your support, love and encouragement.

Daily Announcements

It's time for the annual holiday drive!  We are proud to announce that this year's drive will benefit the Parents Pantry Progam, which helps families affected by pediatric cancer who are living at the Ronald McDonald House New York.

In addition to the pressures these families face, many also worry about additional expenses while they are living at the Ronald McDonald House New York.  The Parents Pantry Program partners with schools to collect items these families need, including nonperishable foods, new and unused paper goods, toiletries and other necessities of daily life, such as hand soap and cleaning supplies.  Parents at Ronald McDonald House New York can then {"shop" at the Parents Pantry at no cost.  The availability of these items can help to ease any burden for parents so they can focus on their children's health.

Our collection to benefit the Parents Pantry Program will begin on Tuesday, November 18, and continue through Friday, December 12.

We encourage your family to help bring joy to the families at Ronald McDonald House New York by donating items such as:

  • Cereal
  • canned fruits and vegetables
  • canned soup
  • pasta, pasta sauces, and noodles
  • juice boxes
  • canned tuna
  • individual microwaveable meals
  • raisins, granola bars, and other healthy snacks
  • toothpaste (full-size preferred) and toothbrushes
  • shampoo and conditioner (full-size preferred)
  • deodorant (full-size preferred)
  • toilet paper
  • plastic utensils
  • paper towels and napkins
  • paper plates and bowls
  • Clorox/Lysol wipes
  • Liquid hand soap
Donations should be placed in the bags in the school lobby.

Kindergarten Connect, the citywide kindergarten application process begins Monday, January 7th and ends Friday, February 13th.  Families may apply online, or over the phone or in person at the local Office of Student Enrollment.  Registration will take place later in the Spring, after offers have been made.

We will open our waitlists for first through fifth grades beginning January 7, 2015.  Families interested in placing their child(ren) on our wait list must appear in person (you do not have to bring your child) with your child(ren)'s original birth certificate or passport and two proofs of residency.

PS 150 is a nut-free school. These restrictions refer to both ground and tree nuts.  We have young students with serious nut allergies, for whom this is a matter of life and death.

Children will be offered cheese sandwiches as an alternative to the hot lunch instead of peanut butter.

If you are sending your child to school with a lunch packed at home, please do not include any food items with nuts.  This includes salted peanuts, peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter granola bars, foods cooked in peanut oil and all tree nut and tree nut-derived products.

In addition, if your child eats peanuts or peanut-based products as part of his/her breakfast, please make sure his/her hands are washed thoroughly before coming to school and there are no crumbs on his/her clothing.

It isn't easy being green
Please help us by discarding all trash in the appropriate receptacles.  We have blue bins for metal, glass and plastic, grey bins for paper and regular cans for all non recyclable garbage.  Thank you.
