Dear TLC Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome returning and new families to another exciting school year at P.S 150.  I am thrilled to be joining such a caring and supportive learning community.

My name is Rebecca Newfield and I am the new guidance counselor. A little background about me: I was born and raised in Greenwich Village. I studied theater in college and taught theater for several years at a local after school program for elementary school students. I received my Masters degree from Hunter College in school counseling. I come to you from two schools in Brooklyn. As is always the case with a counselor, I was involved in a variety of activities. I facilitated a peer mediation training program, designed curriculum for full classrooms tailored to the social and emotional needs of the students, and conducted individual and group counseling. I truly love what I do and I am looking forward to working inside and outside the classroom with your children.

My responsibilities are just as varied here at P.S 150. They will include providing mandated individual and group counseling, social and emotional lessons in the classroom, Banana Splits Groups for children of divorced or separated families, and parent workshops. I will be working closely with our fifth grade teacher, Allison on the middle school articulation process and all that comes with that transition. In addition, I will serve as a resource to teachers and families for outside services and support.

Finally, I would like to ask for your help in setting up the most comfortable room possible for your children. If you are doing a fall cleanout or redoing any rooms in your home here is a list of items we could use:

Pillows (large and bright)

Beanbag chairs

A small loveseat/couch (suitable for two)

Please feel free to come visit the guidance office (next to the nurse’s station) or email me at rnewfield@schools.nyc.gov if you have any questions, concerns or just want to chat. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your children.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Newfield
